    Indians hard at work

The Indians look to finally be getting some of the military hardware they have been trying to buy from the Russians. First, it appears the deal to get an Akula SSN is going through, and perhaps the Indians can take delivery as soon as 2009.

While it looks to take a little longer still (2012), the deal for the Adm Gorshkov aircraft carrier (nominally) appears to at least be back in negotiations, with the Indians being asked to shell out an additional $2B to get it completed. While the Indians talk of purchasing the USS Kitty Hawk didn't get them a lower price on the Gorshkov, perhaps it motivated the Russians to at least get moving.

    NC Commissioning this weekend...

There are a bevy of stories today about the USS North Carrolina (SSN-777) commissioning, which is Saturday in Wilmington, NC. Here's an official Navy photo of the crew practicing their salute.

Of course, you can read the official Navy announcement article, check out the sailors touring Wilmington (from there, you can see an interview with the Skipper, CAPT Mark Davis). And, the Wilmington Star-News has a nice piece about the WW2 vets of the USS North Carolina (BB-56) passing the torch to the USS North Carolina (SSN-777).

Indians trying to get Manhattan back, testing new sub-launched missile

The Indians are testing a cruise missile that supposedly will carry a nuclear payload, and be launched from their planned class of nuclear-powered submarines. From this article, you can link to a pretty nice artist conception of the Indian's new submarine.

I say it's nice that the Indians are going to be on our side. Here's to some collaborative efforts with them.

You will find nothing after the jump.
