No more just guys on subs. It's official.

In case you missed it, the Navy plans to allow women to serve on submarines.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates notified Congress on Monday that the Navy intends to change its policy. Congress has 30 working days to object.

They'll first go on SSBN's, where they can more easily be accomodated, and, officers first, since you only need 3, I guess.

My take is that the sub draft at the academy is no longer (?) effective. Might as well let a larger group of people volunteer for the job.

There will be true equality of the sexes when female middies are drafted for sub duty - I'm not holding my breath.

It is funny. This same old song and dance has been going on for years, but guess what? The only women on subs is still Radiomen. I have been in a long time and these are still "plans" and "intents" just to keep the female friendly media and chicks who want dicks happy. "Submarine Once. Submarine Twice."
